JACKSON TWP — Several road-paving projects will take place in the township this week, officials said at Thursday’s supervisors meeting.

Roads to be paved or which recently have been paved include Gregg Drive, Little Creek Road, Fanker Road, Gudekunst Road and Textor School Road.

The projects cost about $240,000, with money coming from the state’s highway aid funds and the township’s capitol reserve funds.

Work is being done by Youngblood Paving.

Paving on Gregg Drive and Little Creek Road, finished last week, was done up to the site of the future Harmony Place on Little Creek Road.

The Gudekunst Road portion will be done from Zehner School Road to the base of Bunzo Hill.

The Fanker Road portion may start at the end of this week and be done next week.

“They’re paving two-and-a-half to three inches of binder,” said township manager Chris Rearick about Fanker Road. “That gives more strength and durability to the road and should help complement the base repair occurring out there.”

Fanker Road was moved slightly to line up with Wise Road to address the aging culvert pipe under Fanker Road at its intersection with Route 19.

Textor School Road will be paved today or Wednesday with gravel surface up to the Sportsman’s Club on top of the hill, about one-quarter of a mile. The road level also is being brought up slightly.

A drainage device was installed on Textor School Road.

It is on a curve and encased in a geotextile fabric and filled with gravel so it acts as a continuous drain on the curve, Rearick said.

“It provides an additional means of controlling drainage in that area,” he said.

Paving between Route 68 and the railroad tracks on Textor School Road also was discussed.

However construction of a heater station by the Energy Transfer Corp. on Textor School Road scheduled this fall will delay that project.

“Given the fact they will be accessing a portion of that road from Route 68, we would suggest holding off any improvements,” Rearick said.

Rearick said that portion of Textor School Road is in “passable” condition now.
