Supervisors agree to buy dump truckCLINTON TWP — The township is getting a new dump truck.The supervisors Tuesday agreed to buy the vehicle from U.S. Municipal of Evans City for $73,160.The board did not yet decide whether to finance the purchase.The new truck replaces a 2001 model with roughly 75,000 miles.The board also discussed whether to buy or rent an excavator and a skidsteer. No decision was made.

Garbage carts rates increaseCRANBERRY TWP — Township residents will notice an increase on their trash-collection bill starting in July.The monthly rate for each gray-top garbage cart increased by 50 cents on Monday, according to the township’s website.Recycling and yard-waste carts will continue to be collected for free.The new monthly rates are: $18.14 for a 35-gallon cart, $19.66 for a 64-gallon cart and $20.32 for a 96-gallon cart.The supervisors in 2014 approved a five-year contract with Vogel Waste Disposal Services of Mars, which had several rate changes built in.The additional revenue will be used to cover the contractor’s rate increase and for replacing garbage containers, many of which are more than 10 years old.The township owns more than 25,000 containers, which are in use at 8,700 homes.
