ADAMS TWP — The former Middlesex Elementary School will become a call center.

The Mars School Board on Tuesday night voted to accept a bid of $450,000 for the school building on Browns Hill Road.

“Others have been interested, but this is the highest and best bid,” said district solicitor Tom King.

The successful bidder, S.A. Arias Holdings, will install an insurance call center in the building, King said. The use fits the Middlesex Township zoning, he said.

The sale is pending approval by Butler County Judge Michael Yeager, who also will accept any other bids at a hearing yet to be scheduled.

King said he expects the hearing will be in mid-September. Yeager could approve another bid if he thinks it would be better for the district.

School board President Dayle Ferguson said in November that the district would accept bids of $500,000 or more after a neighbor of the school offered $75,000.

King said on Tuesday that while the board did hope to receive bids of at least that amount, $450,000 is close.

The district’s special education and pupil services departments are housed at the former elementary school.

Those departments will move to the administration offices adjacent to the primary center on Route 228 once a renovation project there is done.

The elementary school was closed in June 2004 in a relocation of elementary grades. It was built in the early part of the 20th Century as a high school long before the Mars School District existed, and it has had many additions over the decades.
