CRANBERRY TWP — An elderly woman was taken to a hospital Tuesday for evaluation after a rear-end crash.

The accident at 11:06 a.m. happened in the middle lane of Route 228 westbound near the intersection with Cranberry Springs Drive.

A white Toyota Camry, driven by woman, was rear-ended by a white Mitsubishi Galant while stopped at a red light. The crash also caused the Toyota to hit a white Volkswagen Passat, which had minor damage.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, an elderly woman who police did not identify, was evaluated and transferred by Cranberry EMS. The other two drivers were not injured.

The driver of the Toyota said the other woman got out of her car, apologized and admitted fault in the accident before the ambulance arrived.

Two lanes of westbound traffic and a turning lane were closed for about one hour while the two cars were towed and firefighters with the Cranberry Township department cleaned up debris.

The crash is under investigation by the township police.
