CRANBERRY TWP — Two retail theft suspects were arrested Saturday after leading police on a brief chase through the Cranberry Commons parking lot.

Brian Dupirack, 43, of Pittsburgh and Jonathan A. Casteel, 29, of Uniontown both were placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail following the incident, which started at Kohl’s.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to Kohl’s at 2:34 p.m. for a retail theft.

Both suspects were allegedly seen by store security concealing items in shopping bags and leaving the store without paying.

The total value of the items allegedly taken, which included six electric toothbrushes, was $1,319.

Casteel left the store first and got in a black Hyundai Sonata with the license plate covered by duct tape, which he pulled up to the store’s exit.

As police were arriving, Dupirack ran out of the store and got in the car. The officer driving the patrol car turned on its emergency lights, pulled in front of the car and told Casteel to turn off his vehicle, according to the complaint.

Casteel put the car in reverse, traveling at a high rate of speed through the parking lot with the police car in pursuit.

But the suspects didn’t get very far. Moments later, the car stopped after entering an area of the parking lot without an exit and the men were arrested.

Dupirack is charged with felony conspiracy, felony retail theft and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Casteel is charged with felony conspiracy, felony retail theft and misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude an officer. He also was cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license.
