BUFFALO TWP — Although the Freeport School Board last approved expenditures related to the roughly $4 million sports stadium project, none were cost overruns.

Board president Dan Lucovich said in an interview those expenses are covered.

“We’re not over budget,” he said.

The board approved spending an amount not to exceed $50,0000 for signs and equipment for the stadium.

Lucovich stressed the district would likely not spend the full $50,000, but there would be not be a problem if it did.

However, he still wants the district to scrutinize those expenses. He reiterated concerns about spending up to $3,000 for a dozen chairs inside the press box.

Lucovich said the district needs to find the best price without sacrificing quality.

The board also approved paying Pennsylvania Soil and Rock Inc of Monroeville an amount not to exceed $50,000 for quality assurance and quality control testing inspection services.

Lucovich said that testing cost also could come under $50,000.

“We’ve budgeted $4.2 million,” he said about the project. “We hope it comes under.”

The board approved paying the DiMarco Construction Co, of Clairton in Allegheny County $22,294 to lay asphalt on a gravel parking area in the high school complex.

The board opted to have the work done because the cost would be lower due to a contractor already being on site.

Lucovich said work is unrelated to the stadium project, so the funding will come from the district’s capital budget.

The stadium is expected to be completed for the fall sports season. The turf surface, the home side bleachers and the press box are done.

Lucovich said the stadium may be done by the end of the month, but by mid-July at the latest.

“It’s coming along real well,” he said.
