Scholarships will go to housing clientsThe Butler County Housing Authority will hold its 21st annual scholarship luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the YWCA, 120 W. Cunningham St. in Butler.The scholarships are designed to recognize and encourage participants of the housing authority’s many programs to pursue higher education and achieve economic independence. The focus of the scholarship award is to provide financial assistance in areas not commonly included in the student’s financial aid package, such as meals, supplies, transportation costs, day care expenses, books, lab fees, and/or summer school classes.The authority will award nine scholarships for a total of $5,800.Scholarships will be awarded to: Harriet Cain, Affordable Housing Accountants, $500; Suzanne McClelland, Alliance for Nonprofit Resources, $500 and NexTier, $500; Latisha Ellison, Armstrong, $500 and Stepanian & Menchyk, LLP, $500; Amanda Coyne, PNC, $1,000 Cohen & Grisby, $500; Cain Kaltenbaugh, Dollar Bank, $1,000; Dawna Hustak, Hartnett Scholarship, $300 and Northwest, $500.For more information, contact Martha Brown or Mara Flick at the Butler County Housing Authority at 724-287-6797.

United Way elects new board officersFRANKLIN TWP — At its annual meeting Thursday the United Way of Butler County elected new officers for its board of directors and new board members who will serve their first three-year terms on the organization’s board.The newly elected board officers are: Ron Bowser of USW 13300 and Indspec, who will serve as board chairman, Beverly Wogan of Peoples TWP, who will serve as board co-chairman, and Kenny Bonus of KPMG, who will serve as board treasurer.The newly elected board members are: Janine Kennedy of Butler County Community Action, Dan LaVallee of UPMC, and Ray Mitch of UAW 3303.Board members also voted to elected Ron Bowser to his second three-year term on the United Way’s board of directors.
