Jeep Invasion to affect parking, traffic flow in city's downtown

The Jeep Invasion on Friday, part of the Butler Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival, will shut down Main Street to traffic starting at 5 p.m.

Street parking will not be allowed after 3 p.m. and Main Street, between Pearl and Wayne streets, will be closed to traffic at 5 p.m.

Traffic will be routed to McKean and Washington streets.

Some side streets also will be affected by the invasion which has hundreds of Jeeps park downtown for visitors to view from 6 to 10 p.m.

Brian Steffy, state Department of Transportation District 10 assistant construction engineer, said that Folino Construction hopes to have the majority of the Main Street paving work finished by Friday morning. If the weather doesn’t cooperate at night, the company may have to do some paving work during the day on Thursday.

In past years, Jeeps started arriving in the city Friday morning for the Jeep Invasion, so the department plans to have construction finished by then, he said. Folino has been paving Main Street from the General Butler Bridge to Penn Street since May 16.
