Jackson Twp. officials happy with outcome
JACKSON TWP — The township supervisors are pleased with the intersection recently installed at Lindsay Road, Tomlinson Road and Jo Deener Drive.
The four-way intersection was built in late April to eliminate the hazardous intersection at a bend in Lindsay Road, which is Route 528, where it meets Jo Deener Drive.
The drive was extended and now has a stop sign where drivers can turn to meet with the new intersection. The old part of the drive is filled in with dirt and unusable for traffic.
“It’s really well done, I think,” Supervisor Allan Osterwise said. “That is a fast crew.”
The area was closed one weekend for paving and traffic signal installation.
Township manager Chris Rearick said the intersection also helps people who use the nearby Park N’ Ride on Route 528.
“I think that’s a better access,” Rearick said. “It almost seems like Jo Deener Drive was always meant to go that way. It’s worked out.”
Supervisor Ron Lutz said it also will help the nearby Manheim Pittsburgh lot.
“That really helps out everybody for the future,” Lutz said.
The intersection has flashing traffic signals. However Rearick said they will be programmed soon to a normal traffic light sequence.
The intersection also aims to better accommodate developments in the area, including the new FedEx distribution center scheduled for a fall completion.
Route 528 also is having paving work done by the state Department of Transportation.
That project is expected to be done by December and aims to repave the road from Route 19 to Route 68.
