Accused Buffalo Twp. car thief arrested

ADAMS TWP — Police on Thursday arrested a Buffalo Township man four days after he allegedly stole a car from the family’s home.

Gerald A. McNally, 22, is accused of taking off Sunday in a 2014 Ford Focus belonging to his father and grandfather. The car was taken from the McNally home in the 2000 block of Silverville Road.

However, the victims did not immediately report the car was stolen, said Buffalo Township police officer Sean Furlong.

McNally at some point Thursday showed up in the car at a house on Warrendale Road in Adams Township.

But when police went to check, no one was at the house.

Police about 2:15 p.m. issued a be-on-the-lookout advisory for McNally after his family told authorities they feared for his well being, Furlong said.

Police in Adams at 6:50 p.m. found McNally, who was arrested. The circumstances of the arrest were not immediately known.

Adams Assistant Police Chief Robert Scanlon did not return a telephone call this morning.

District Judge Sue Haggerty on Thursday night arraigned McNally on a felony count of theft. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday at Haggerty’s office in Saxonburg.
