Lions Club donates cash for playgroundThe Lions Club of Butler Thursday donated $1,200 to the city for the Christie Avenue Playground.The money is about half the price of the mulch that will be spread this year at the playground. The check was presented by club member John Houston to city council Thursday.The Lions Club will no longer be going door to door to sell its products. Members will sell 13-gallon trash bags this year by mail with free delivery. More information is available at butlerpalionclub.org.

Cranberry OKs park alcohol permitsCRANBERRY TWP — Supervisors Thursday approved an ordinance allowing groups renting park facilities to buy a permit to have alcohol.Township manager Jerry Andree said that 99 percent of the comments from residents have been in favor of the ordinance.The township has shelters it rents in the Community Park on Route 19 and in North Boundary Park.Supervisor Dick Hadley noted most nearby municipalities already allow alcohol on a permit basis.The fee for an alcohol permit will be $50, and a permit will be granted by the parks and recreation department.
