City solicitor to review 1-year fire service deal
The Butler Fire Department will enter a one-year contract with the Pennsylvania Fire Recovery Service of Allentown, contingent on a review of the contract by city solicitor Jim Coulter.
Coulter will review what he called “fuzzy language” regarding the contract, specifically wording relating to the six-month period after the incident in which the service would charge a 15 percent fee. After that six months, its fee would be 30 percent.
City council approved the proposal Thursday night.
Should Coulter approve the contract, the department would join fire departments from East Butler, Chicora, Bruin and Marion Township in business with Fire Recovery Service.
The program, called Rescue Recovery, was presented at Tuesday’s council meeting. It consists of the city fire department billing homeowner’s and automobile insurance companies of those served.
The department then would receive the majority of the fee received.
Health insurance companies would not be eligible to be billed.
