Woman allegedly had pot with son
A Butler woman is accused of smoking pot with her 14-year-old son.
City police Tuesday charged 43-year-old Billie Jo Gohn with felony child endangerment after the boy's father discovered text messages on his son's cell phone indicating the alleged parental misconduct.
The boy's parents are separated, said police Lt. Detective Anthony Fatta, who investigated the case.
Police were notified March 30 after the father, who lives in Butler Township, contacted Butler County Children and Youth Services to report finding the phone messages.
He expressed concerns that his estranged wife was providing marijuana to and smoking the drug with their child, Fatta said.
Fatta on April 4 interviewed the boy and his father. The child admitted he “has smoked marijuana numerous times with his mother,” according to court documents.
Fatta said he reviewed text messages between the son and mother that were on the teenager's phone.
In one text about 9:20 p.m. March 23, the boy asks, “u stopping after work.”
Gohn replies: “why.”
The boy responds, “just asking because if not where is the bud so I can smoke a bowl before going to bed,” documents said.
At 9:43 p.m., Gohn texts back, “it's in green cup in cupboard.”
Fatta said that during the investigation, CYS took custody of the child. At the time, Gohn had primary custody of her son.
But following the investigation, the boy was placed in his father's care.
In addition to the felony count of child endangerment, Gohn is charged with corruption of minors and possession of a small amount of marijuana with intention to distribute but not sell, both misdemeanors.
