Metcalfe outraises, outspends challenger

Marburger looks for nomination

Similar to their race two years ago, incumbent state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe has outraised and outspent challenger Gordon Marburger this year in the race for 12th District state representative.

The winner of Tuesday’s Republican primary between Metcalfe and Marburger will face Democrat Christian Regier of Cranberry Township in the fall.

The 12th District covers Adams, Clinton, Cranberry, Forward, Middlesex and Penn townships as well as Callery, Mars, Seven Fields and Valencia.

Metcalfe of Cranberry Township, who has held his office since 1998, carried over $96,049 in campaign money into the most recent reporting period, which ran from Jan. 1 to April 11, via his election committee Friends for Daryl Metcalfe.

The Committee to Elect Gordon Marburger raised $4,710, spent $4,875 and has debts of $36,988 borrowed from Marburger himself for his 2014 campaign for the same office.

During the past four months, Metcalfe received $19,830 in contributions and spent $22,082, according to a campaign finance report this month.

The biggest expenditure for the Metcalfe campaign was $14,730 paid to the David Millner Group of Jensen Beach, Fla., for design, printing and mailing services.

The campaign spent $1,951 on prepaid credit cards that were used for campaign expenses such as copies, fuel and dinner and lunch meetings and $1,222 with the Printing Post in Pittsburgh for envelopes, paper and printing.

The campaign also made a $700 contribution to the Pennsylvania House Republican Campaign Committee, but received a $1,194 in-kind contribution from the committee for postcard mailings.

Marburger’s election committee spent $3,607 on stamps and postage, $459 with Harmony Colours for mailer design and $268 with Eagle Printery for labels.

Debt incurred included $4,425 for bulk mailers and $28,563 for legal fees from 2014 and $4,000 as a loan.

The donations to the respective campaigns showed that Metcalfe has the support of numerous political groups, while Marburger of Adams Township collected only from individual people.

For Metcalfe, $6,150 came from political committees. The Republican Party of Pennsylvania gave $2,500 and PA Life PAC of Pittsburgh gave $1,000.

Other committees that gave $500 included Firearm Owners Against Crime PAC, Jim For Knowles, Family PAC and NFIB — PA Safe Trust.

The largest contributions to the Marburger campaign were $1,000 from Kevin Caridad of Cranberry and $500 from Karen Wise of Butler and $500 from William and Bonnie Weaver of Mars.
