A Butler man is accused of making repeated unwelcome sexual advances toward a woman before he showed up — armed with a screwdriver — at her city home Wednesday and threatened to kill the woman and her family.
Butler police a short time later arrested 58-year-old Wayne Edwards Sr., not far from the alleged victim’s home in the 100 block of North Elm Street.
Edwards is being held in the Butler County Prison on several charges. No one was injured.
The 36-year-old woman told police the defendant began “hitting on her” about three weeks ago when he first came to her house, according to court documents.
She said she told him to leave her alone.
But on Tuesday, documents said, he again approached the victim and her 53-year-old mother as the two women were at church. Edwards got angry when the younger woman told him to stay away.
“(He) became argumentative and threatened to come to her house,” according to a police affidavit.
The next day, investigators said, he made good on his threat and appeared at the house. This time the victim’s mother ordered him to leave.
But Edwards allegedly pulled a screwdriver from his jacket and pointed it at the woman. He told her he was going to “get” her and her husband, documents said.
The younger woman, who had been sleeping, heard her mother yell and came to the door, telling the defendant “not to come here no more,” the affidavit said.
The rebuke prompted another alleged threat from the suspect: “I’m going to send a bomb from Pittsburgh ... I will kill your whole family.”
Edwards left but police caught up to him on East Locust Street near Cedar Street. A search turned up a large screwdriver in his jacket pocket.
He was arraigned on two counts each of terroristic threats and simple assault, and stalking. A preliminary hearing is set for 8:45 a.m. Monday.
