Police say mom hid man

LANCASTER TWP — A 37-year-old woman is accused of trying to hide a man from police less than a week after he allegedly assaulted her and her daughter.

Carrie Pittman of Lancaster Township and Don Taylor, 46, of Zelienople both appeared in district court March 8 where they waived charges to court stemming from incidents Jan. 27 and Feb. 2.

On Jan. 27, township police arrested Taylor at Pittman’s mobile home on Crest Drive. He allegedly choked Pittman until she turned blue and pushed her 15-year-old daughter to the ground causing her to hit her face, according to court records.

He was charged with two counts of misdemeanor simple assault and two counts of harassment. He was released on a non-monetary bond and was prohibited from returning to the residence or having any contact with the victims.

On Feb. 2, David Sitler of Lancaster Township police returned to Pittman’s residence to serve subpoenas and saw Taylor looking out one of the house’s windows, according to court records.

Pittman answered the door and allegedly said to police multiple times that Taylor was not in the residence, though her daughter also was home and told the officer that Taylor was there.

After about 10 minutes, Taylor came out on his own and was placed under arrest for violating the terms of his bond.

He was taken back to district court where District Judge David Kovach set bail at $5,000, which he posted Feb. 8.

Police allege that Pittman allowed Taylor to come back into her home while his assault case was still pending and also allowed him to have unsupervised contact with her daughter, even though she knew that Taylor was a registered sex offender, according to court records.

He is barred from such contact with a minor.

Taylor is listed on the state’s Megan’s Law website. He was convicted of aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old in 2000.

Pittman was charged with felony endangering the welfare of children, misdemeanor obstructing administration of law, and misdemeanor hindering apprehension or prosecution.
