Penn Theater’s neon sign to be repairedPenn Theater on Main Street will see work to its front and rear, said Mayor Tom Donaldson Thursday, with the building’s neon lighting due to be fixed and no trespassing signs installed behind the building.Donaldson announced the work at Thursday’s meeting of the city’s Redevelopment Authority. He said the signs behind the building would signal a no-nonsense approach to trespassing, with violators being charged.The repair of the building’s neon lighting, which will be paid for by a third party, is something Donaldson called a positive step in the building’s rehabilitation.“There’s been some interest in Penn Theater,” Donaldson said. “Everything we do there gets people’s attention.”There was no immediate information on how much the lighting repairs would cost, or when the work would be done.
Seven Fields ice rink used by publicSEVEN FIELDS — The borough’s outdoor ice rink wasn’t frozen for the whole winter, but it still got plenty of use, borough manager Tom Smith said.The rink in the borough park on Castle Creek Drive was frozen and opened to the public in the third week of January and was taken down because of warm temperatures last week.Though mild weather delayed the opening, the rink was still well used and officials received positive feedback, Smith said.It was the third year the borough has had the rink.
DUI checkpoints planned in countyMotorists are being advised not to press their luck with the approaching St. Patrick’s Day holiday by drinking and getting behind the wheel of a car.The Butler County DUI Task Force said it will hold sobriety checkpoints or roving patrols throughout the county beginning today and continuing through March 19. St. Patrick’s Day is March 17.Police, who did not disclose specific locations in advance, remind everyone to drink responsibly and assign a designated driver or make alternate arrangements to get home.
