Freeport, SV fall in PIHL playoffs
Freeport nearly rallied after falling behind big early, but the Yellowjackets fell to South Fayette 6-3 in the first round of the PIHL Class A hockey playoffs at Belmont Ice Complex Thursday night.
Freeport trailed 4-1 before launching its rally, cutting the lead to 4-3 on a pair of late second-period goals by Robert Reichenbaugh.
South Fayette, though, got a pair of goals from Jordan Timmons in the third period to secure the win.
Timmons scored five goals in the game.
South Fayette outshot Freeport 50-25.
Reichenbaugh had all three goals for Freeport.
Cathedral Prep 2, Seneca Valley 1 — The Raiders led 1-0 after two periods, but goals by Dillon Elliott and Joe Kelly lifted Cathedral Prep to the AAA playoff win.
Christopher Lipnicky scored for Seneca Valley late in the first period.
