Tornado indoor track sets records
It was a record-setting weekend for the Butler girls indoor track and field team at the TSTCA Indoor Track Invitational at Edinboro University.
Senior sprinter Emily Horstman broke a pair of school records in the 60- and 200-meter dashes.
Horstman ran a time of 7.89 seconds in the 60, placing first and breaking the record set by Paige Allen in 2013.
Horstman finished third in the 200 with a time of 26.28, breaking the school record she set last week at Mount Union.
The Tornado 1,600-meter relay team also set a school record. Odile Enslen, Kelly Kabay, Shana Hoy and Alexis Leech ran a time of 4 minutes, 11.41 second to place second and shatter the previous record time of 4:15.50 set in 1989.
The distance medley relay team of Liz Simms, Maddie Tonini, Emma LeMay and Erin LeMay finished first and the 800-meter relay team of Maddie Glew, Enslen, Hoy and Horstman placed second.
The 3,200-meter relay team of Simms, Emma LeMay, Hannah Hays and Erin LeMay also finished second with a season-best time of 10:21.62.
Also placing for Butler were Leech, fourth in the 400; Jena Reinheim, fourth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 35 feet, 11 inches; and MacKenzi Popovich, fifth in the high jump.
On the boys side, the Butler 800-meter relay team of Nathen Kibbie, Luke Kernic, Lamont Hoy and Connor Frost finished first.
The relay team has not lost a race this indoor season.
Also placing for Butler were Noah Beveridge, who was third in the mile run; Dylan Swidzinski, fourth in the hurdles; Frost, fifth in the 400-meter run; Nick Kibbie, sixth in the high jump; Nathen Kibbie, third in the 60- and 200-meter runs and seventh in the 200; Brady Hartle, fifth in the long jump; fifth for the 3,200-meter relay team of Terance Thompson Maryland, Beveridge, Brett Brady and Cullen Paulisick; and fourth for the 1,600-meter relay team of Cody Reddick, Cade Gratzmiller, Hoy and Thompson Maryland.
Girls Basketball
Alexis Deyarmin scored 13 points and Carla Cintron added 12 as Grove City wrapped up the regular season with a 44-33 road win over Central Tech.
Deyarmin also added five steals.
Hannah Santon contributed nine points and seven rebounds for the Eagles (14-8), who will open the District 10 Class AAA playoffs Saturday against Mercyhurst Prep.
