City man allegedly held knife to girlfriend's throat

A Butler man is accused of holding a knife to his girlfriend’s throat and threatening to kill her during a domestic dispute at the couple’s apartment in the 300 block of West Wayne Street.

Lukas T. Safranek, 20, was arrested following the Sunday altercation that left him in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail. He is charged with aggravated assault, a felony, and terroristic threats and simple assault, both misdemeanors.

The alleged victim, 29-year-old Jessica Mahoney, notified police shortly after the altercation about 3:45 p.m. Mahoney told police that the two initially got into an argument during which Safranek head-butted and kicked the bedroom door, breaking it, according to court documents. He allegedly pushed her before threatening to kill. He walked to the living room and returned with what police described as a “straight long-bladed knife.”

He held the knife against Mahoney’s neck with the tip “putting slight pressure against her throat,” documents said. Again, he threatened to kill her. After she pushed him away, police said, he threw a glass of water and a glass of lemonade at her. Mahoney was not seriously injured.
