The Seneca Valley Academic Decathlon Team earned a total of 23 medals during a United States Academic Decathlon state level competition Jan. 2 at Gannon University. JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley Academic Decathlon Team earned 23 medals during a recent United States Academic Decathlon state level competition Jan. 2 at Gannon University.

Teams earned medals in economics, social science, speech, interview and essay. Seneca Valley’s team placed second overall in the Super Quiz relay out of 24 high schools.

Three students earned perfect scores: Rishin Sharma and Jacob Geil in speech and Colton Botta in interview. Also, students Kyle Cindrich and Colton Botta were two of the top nine highest-scoring students out of more than 400 participants in the entire competition.

[naviga:h3]Legion speech winners named[/naviga:h3]

The Butler County Council of the American Legion announced the results of the American Legion Oratorical or Constitutional Speech Contest.

Kasea Losch, a junior at Butler High School, finished in first place. She spoke on American wars that led to amendments to the U.S. Constitution and considered the U.S. military’s defense of other nations. She is the daughter of Ralph and Mary Jo Losch of Butler Township.

Nathan Ellis, a freshman at Butler High School, finished in second place. He is the son of Brian and Monica Ellis of Butler Township.

Other contestants were Noah Bowser, a senior at Freeport High School and the son of Barry and Mary Bowser of Sarver; Sophia Lex, a freshman at Butler High School and the daughter of Jonathan and Trudy Lex of Butler; Julie Kasunic, a senior at Knoch High School and the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Kasunic of Jefferson Township; and Paige Lambermont, a senior at Butler High School and the daughter of Brian and Jennifer Lambermont of Summit Township.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Christopher Fiorina will be inducted into Alpha Lamda Delta Honor Society for academic achievement at Washington and Jefferson College.
