Danik nets 26 as SV girls roll

Raiders off to 4-0 start on court

Erin Danik scored 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to help Seneca Valley open Section 3-AAAA play with a 64-42 home win over Oakland Catholic Thursday night at William Paul Gymnasium.

Danik was also 10 for 10 at the free-throw line for the undefeated Raiders (4-0, 1-0).

Paige Montrose also scored 13 points for Seneca Valley.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 84, St. Joseph 43 — Sam Breen recorded 30 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for the Trojanettes (3-0, 1-0) in a Section 2-A road win.

Hockey

Putting pucks in the net has been an issue at times for Mars.

The Planets had no problem against one of the PIHL’s best Class AA teams, winning 8-3 at Belmont Ice Complex.

Noah Raymundo scored a team-high four goals for Mars (8-3). Beau Heakins, Jonathan Kowalkowski, Keaton Hanna and Owen Vasbinder also scored for the Planets.

Freeport 5, Sewickley Academy 3 — Michael Frazetta and Kyle Hazelett both scored twice to lead the Yellowjackets to a non-conference win over Sewickley Academy at Belmont Ice Complex.

Freeport, which is 8-2, outshot the Panthers 47-27.

Morgan Penn picked up the win in net, making 24 saves. Rob Reichenbaugh also scored for the Yellowjackets.
