Grove City man pleads guilty to robbing woman

Victim disagrees with plea deal

There are scratch marks on the inside of her SUV’s hatch.

That’s where she tried to get out after a stranger pushed a gun into her ribs and forced her in the back of her own vehicle.

“And when he locked me in the back of my CR-V, I wondered what he was going to do next? He had already threatened my life,” said Jennifer Bohan, a Cranberry Township woman who was victimized by a stranger June 26 while cleaning her vehicle outside her apartment on Dutilh Road.

She met face-to-face with that stranger again Tuesday in Butler County’s sentence court: 22-year-old Taquan D. Maxwell of Grove City.

Maxwell pleaded guilty to robbery, and Butler County Judge William Shaffer sentenced him to serve 3 1/2 to 10 years in prison.

“I disagree with the plea deal made ... Mr. Maxwell did more than just rob me. He grabbed my throat and roughed up my body,” Bohan said in court.

After the incident, police determined the weapon used in the robbery was a pellet gun resembling a Walther pistol.

According to court records, Maxwell threatened Bohan with the gun, and took her cash and credit cards before pushing her into her vehicle.

“(He) got into the driver’s seat, attempted to start my car and when he couldn’t, he stole my cell phone then fled,” Bohan said, questioning if Maxwell had hoped to drive away with her. “Why did he do it? I wish I could understand why anyone would do something like this.”

Maxwell was arrested a short time later, still with the pellet gun and the woman’s cash and credit card in his car.

Since this incident, Bohan said she has trouble trusting people and sleeping. She gets a twitch in her eye.

“I’ve isolated myself from the public and I don’t feel safe alone or anywhere now,” she said. “I don’t have a normal life now.”

When given a chance to speak in court, Maxwell said he is remorseful, and “I ask forgiveness from my victim and my family.”
