WEST SUNBURY — American Legion Post 243 recently awarded scholarships to the following students:
John Campbell, the son of Kim Campbell, is attending Pittsburgh Technical Institute and studying information technology
Kelsey McCaslin, the daughter of Eric McCaslin, is studying nursing at Butler County Community College.
Cierra Weibel, the daughter of Tom and Jill Hockenberry, is studying graphic design at Pittsburgh Technical Institute.
[naviga:h3]Seneca Valley student honored[/naviga:h3]
BALTIMORE — Rishin Sharma, a student at Seneca Valley Middle School, was honored as one of the brightest middle school students in the world at an international awards ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY).
Rishin was recognized for his exceptional performance on the college SAT, ACT or similar test as part of the 2014-2015 CTY Talent Search. The tests provide a clear picture of advanced students’ true academic abilities.
Rishin also qualified for CTYs residential summer programs, online classes and family programs.
[naviga:h3]Essay contest winners announced[/naviga:h3]
BRADYS BEND — The Bradys Bend American Legion Bishop-Madden Post 488 announced the winners of its 2015 essay contest for sixth grade students.
For the essay, the students named three things they can do to show a veteran they are thankful for the veteran’s service. The essays were scored on content, effort, spelling and organization.
Winners from Sugarcreek Elementary School were, first place, Anthony Cordek, son of Kevin and Melissa Cordek of East Brady; second place, Ashley Fox, daughter of Jason and Nicole Fox of Cowansville; and third place, Brittany Crissman, daughter of Roger and Rebecca Crissman of Cowansville.
Winners from Chicora Elementary School were, first place, Marra Patton, daughter of Will and Tracy Patton of Chicora; second place, Zane Rottman, son of Randy and Anna Rottman of Chicora; and third place, Mackenzie Scherer, daughter of Jeremy and Sharon Scherer of Chicora.
