SV, Mars boys win in soccer
The Seneca Valley boys soccer team made its first-ever appearance in the PIAA Class AAA playoffs a successful one Tuesday night at Mansion Park in Altoona.
Griffin Mathew scored twice to help the Raiders roll to a 5-1 win over District 6 champion State College.
Mathew also recorded an assist, setting up Matt Saluga to put Seneca Valley ahead 2-1 in the 30th minute.
Macen DiPaolo and Zach Turley also scored for the Raiders (16-2-1).
Seneca Valley will play Canon-McMillan Saturday at a site and time to be determined. The Big Macs beat the Raiders 1-0 in the WPIAL semifinals.
Mars 5, Bradford 0 — Andrew Diefenbacher scored twice to help Mars blank District 9 champion Bradford in the first round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs at DuBois Area High School.
Andrew Dominijanni, Justin Simakas and Cory Ferguson also scored for the Planets (19-3-1).
Mars will take on South Park in the quarterfinals Saturday at a site and time to be determined.
