PHILADELPHIA — Shelby Bowser of West Sunbury, Evan McGarvey of Chicora and Alison Rykaczewski of Butler were awarded renewable scholarships by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).
Bowser is a student at Robert Morris University. She participates in the university’s honors program. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Beta Gamma Sigma, an international business honors society. She has made dean’s list for five consecutive semesters.
McGarvey is a student at Clarion University. He is active with several community groups, including Kids that Care, Hall Runner and Stand Tall. He also enjoys soccer, track and cross country.
Rykaczewski is a student at Indiana (Pa.) University. She has been on the dean’s list every semester in college. In fall 2014, she was awarded the title of a Provost’s Scholar, which is awarded only once to students who hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher with a minimum of 45 credits.
Candidates were judged by their intellectual capacity, leadership potential, financial need and intent to pursue a career in accounting.
Accounting majors at Pennsylvania colleges and universities are eligible for the scholarship.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Three Butler County students at the University of Mount Union received scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Meghan Hess of Cranberry Township received the Dean’s Scholarship.
Jordyn Wyllie of Grove City also received the Dean’s Scholarship.
Nathan Owen of Cranberry Township received the Heritage Award.
The scholarships are based on high academic performance and involvement. These students can renew their scholarships for up to four years at the university.
