Annual Taste of Cranberry slated Sept. 28

Diners will have variety of foods to choose from

CRANBERRY TWP — The time has come again for people to get another Taste of Cranberry.

Presented by the Pittsburgh North Regional Chamber, the Taste of Cranberry will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

Jim Boltz, chamber executive director, said the entire event will be held indoors this year. In the past there was a tent outside for a dining area.

Megan Julius, director of marketing and events, said another change this year is that live entertainment will be provided by three groups: the Bogmeisters, Keystone State Music Theater and Greater Harmony Chorus.

“We are very excited about that. That is something we haven’t had in a number of years,” she said.

Julius said the event will feature food from a variety of restaurants, from Walnut Grill bringing crab cakes to several caterers and Noodles and Co.

“You will definitely get a solid dinner while you are with us,” she said.

Boltz said it is one of the best dining values in the Cranberry Township market.

There will be 20 food vendors and 19 businesses participating to give out information, Julius said.

“I think it is nice for (attendees) to get exposed to some of the businesses that we have that are not food vendors and getting educated on the different resources we have as a community,” Julius said.

“It is a fun event for us to see community members interacting with the businesses we interact with daily. We know how fabulous they are, but it is nice that we get to showcase them and share the message.”

The Kid’s Zone will be expanded this year, Julius said. Paint Monkey is coming in to do a large canvas.

“Every child will be able paint a square of the canvas,” she said. “Then we will have it on display in our offices.”

Julius said representatives from the KinderCare Learning Center and Junior Achievement of Western PA will provide different activities.

“The Kid’s Zone is definitely new and improved from last year,” she said.

Med Express will sponsor the Kid’s Zone with a number of activities, Julius said.

“There is a lot of great entertainment for the kids,” Boltz said.

Julius said there also will be a nine-foot-tall monster walking around from Zombies of the Corn, which is an event that Three Rivers Paintball sponsors each year.

Tickets for the Taste of Cranberry are available at both of the chamber offices and also can be ordered online at www.pghnorthchamber.com.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 12. Children 4 and younger will be admitted free. Family tickets cost $35 for two adults and two children 12 and younger.

“I think it is a great evening, and the region is really represented in the foods we have this year,” Julius said. “It is a great way to sample restaurants before you go and sit down for a meal. This way you get to try a little bit of everything.”
