Police nab teens

Copper wire alleged target

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — A pair of teenage burglars were looking to steal scrap metal Thursday afternoon when they targeted a mobile home near Buffalo Road, state police said.

A nearby resident apparently caught the suspects in the act just after noon and contacted police to report a break-in at the house on Bobcat Drive.

Troopers on their way there nabbed the alleged crooks — Daniel P. Getty, 18, and Kirk R. Rekasie, 18, both of Connoquenessing Township, according to court documents.

Police suspect the teens, armed with tree pruners and tin shears, went to the victim’s home to strip it of aluminum siding and copper wire and tubing. They are accused of breaking into the house through the rear door.

But before the duo could make their getaway with the metal loot, they were stopped by police. Rekasie admitted his role in the crime, documents said, and implicated Getty.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned both suspects on felony charges of burglary and trespass and misdemeanor charges of theft, receiving stolen property, possessing instruments of crime and criminal mischief.

At their arraignments, the young defendants admitted they have juvenile crime records.

Rekasie told Haggerty that he was arrested in 2013 on burglary and drug charges. Getty acknowledged he was arrested in 2012 for receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both teenagers are being held in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail each.
