District to save money in insurance costs
JEFFERSON TWP — South Butler School District will likely save $300,000 in health insurance costs next year when they switch to a new benefits consultant.
South Butler School Board members voted to withdraw from the Midwestern Health Combine effective July 1, 2016, and appoint First Niagara Benefits Consulting to take over.
Tom Breth, district solicitor, said employees will not see a change in their benefits; both providers use Highmark.
It’s ultimately the goal of the school board to have one health care provider for all staff, including teachers, support personnel and custodians, Breth said.
The district also has hired a part-time communications person, grant writer and Knoch Knights Legacies Foundation liaison.
Jennifer Webb was approved at a $25,000 salary for the 2015-16 school year.
She begins work this month. She replaces Jason Davidek, who worked as a communications person and transportation director until last month.
David Zupsic, superintendent, said an assistant superintendent will most likely be hired by the next school board meeting in October.
