NEW YORK — U.S. stocks are opening broadly higher as the market bounces back from a plunge the day before.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 200 points, or 1.3 percent, to 16,255 in the first few minutes of trading today.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index increased 20 points, or 1.1 percent, to 1,933. The Nasdaq composite climbed 50 points, or 1.1 percent, to 4,686.

The Dow sank almost 470 points the day before as traders worried about more signs of weakness in China’s economy.

European markets also rose broadly.

The price of oil gained 66 cents to $46.11 a barrel.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.18 percent.
