CRANBERRY TWP — The Moraine Trails Council of the Boy Scouts is honoring Cathy Glasgow of Penn Township with this year’s Distinguished Citizens Award.

Glasgow will be honored at the Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Pittsburgh Marriott North at Cranberry Woods.

Glasgow is the owner and president of Butler County Ford. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Butler, a past chairman of Butler Downtown and a member of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce.

She is a board member of the Greater Pittsburgh Auto Dealers Association and a board member of VNA of Western Pennsylvania. She also is a supporter of the Butler County Humane Society.

Henry Sinopoli, former president and now council liaison of the Moraine Trails Council, said Butler County Ford has been a pillar for downtown Butler for nearly a century. He said the business stayed downtown while other dealerships moved to Butler Township due to tax increases.

“They made a decision to grow where they were planted,” Sinopoli said.

Glasgow’s grandfather started the company in 1926, handing it down after retirement to her father, Tony Johns.

Sinopoli said Glasgow wasn’t simply handed the company. She has showed dedication in her advancement through her family’s business. She started at the bottom at a time when women were not expected to work in a masculine industry.

“I think she really had to prove herself,” he said. “And she did.”

Glasgow said she has always understood the importance and role a business has in its community, and she feels a responsibility as a business owner to make her community better.

“I’m a firm believer in supporting those whom support me,” she said.

Glasgow said the award was unexpected, especially because she doesn’t expect recognition for helping the community. She also is honored to be thought of as highly as past honorees of this award.

“It’s quite a group,” she said.

Raymond Tennent, Moraine Trails scout executive and CEO, said the money raised from the dinner supports year-round scout camp facilities and locations.
