Afternoon fire damages house in Grove City
GROVE CITY — Firefighters here are still on the scene of a house fire at 149 Park St. that is being investigated by police, emergency officials said Thursday.
Dispatchers in Mercer County say the fire call at 1:49 p.m. sent the Grove City Volunteer Fire Department as well as other fire companies to what a neighbor says is a single family home.
Elizabeth Wetzel, who lives next door said the family living in the house — a woman and three young children — wasn’t home at the time of the fire. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from damaging any nearby buildings, Wetzel said.
She said it didn’t appear that anyone had been hurt in the blaze, though Keith McKinney, whose mother, Rachel, lives down the street from the home, said smoke had caused her to have trouble breathing.
As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Grove City firefighters were still at the scene, according to Mercer County Dispatch.
An officer answering the phone at the Grove City police station Thursday said the department was not releasing any information on the fire or any investigation.
