Contractors in place for BC3 library project
BUTLER TWP — All of the contractors have been set for the construction of the Heaton Family Learning Commons at Butler County Community College.
BC3 trustees on Wednesday approved the contractors, and the total cost of the contracts is about $5.1 million.
The Perry Construction Group of Erie, which bid $3.58 million, will be the general contractor.
D&G Mechanical of West Middlesex, which bid $719,100, will do HVAC for the building.
The Fuellgraf Electric Co. of Butler, which bid $549,900, will do the electrical construction.
The Wm. T. Spaeder Co. of Erie will do the building’s plumbing and fire protection. It bid $162,000 and $89,400, respectively, for those aspects of the project.
Construction is expected to begin in July and is expected to finish in May 2016. A groundbreaking will take place on Wednesday.
The building will take the place of the John A. Beck Library, which was built in the 1970s.
The new building will include multiuse classroom spaces; an array of technology; numerous electrical outlets; large windows and a grab-and-go cafe. The entrance also will face the center of campus, rather than the back.
Renaissance III Architects of Pittsburgh designed the building.
Much of the funding for the project has already been lined up. A state grant will cover $2.3 million and Butler native Bob Heaton last year donated $1 million to the project, which was the largest private donation the college has ever received.
