Iconic promoter Engler to talk about career
CRANBERRY TWP — On Saturday, a slice of rock 'n' roll history will be on display at the Cranberry Public Library.
Rich Engler, an iconic Pittsburgh music promoter and producer, will be at the library from 1 to 3 p.m. to talk about his career in the music business and show off memorabilia from his 40 years promoting concerts at venues such as Three Rivers Stadium and the Benedum Center.
“There's going to be the Eric Clapton guitar, the Paul McCartney guitar, and the Bob Dylan guitar. Plus, I'm bringing some surprise items,” Engler said.
He also will discuss stories and anecdotes from his career, many of which are detailed in a book he wrote about his time as a promoter.
“I have a dramatic story of Paul McCartney not being able to go on stage due to a throat problem,” Engler said. “He did the sound check and it knocked my socks off. All the sudden everything changed and he couldn't go on stage.”
Library visitors will be able to hold the famous guitars and other items and take photographs with them.
Admission is free, but those planning to attend are asked to register for the event online at www.cranberrylibrary.org.
The library is in the township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road.
