Speakers share their stories, Jeep history
The Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival will feature Jeep historians and authors who will share their insights as part of the History Speakers Series.
The presentations will run throughout the weekend in the Jeep History Exhibit. Photographs, videos and hands-on opportunities will be used to share little known facts about the Jeep. The schedule includes:
Friday
10 a.m. — Jeep historian Julius Lorentzson will speak about his excursions to Normandy with his Jeep. He will share photographs and stories from his two trips commemorating the anniversaries of D-Day.
11 a.m. — Project manager and historian Paul Bruno is author of “Project Management in History: The First Jeep.” Bruno will offer highlights of his book that examines Bantam’s industrious efforts, ingenuity and project management as the Bantam Reconnaissance Car was built in just 49 days.
Noon — Author and military historian David Hustler will talk about World War II and Vietnam War era weapons. He will disassemble them, explain their parts and pieces and teach attendees about how and why they were used. The presentation will take place at Hustler’s tent in the World War II encampment.
1 p.m. — Patrick Foster, columnist for Hemmings Classic Car and Old Cars Weekly, will share stories of Jeeps in action during World War II, stories in which lives were saved, battles won and legends made. Afterward, there will be a book signing.
Saturday
9:30 a.m. — Foster, columnist for Hemmings Classic Car and Old Cars Weekly, again will share stories of Jeep vehicles during World War II. A book signing will follow.
11 a.m. — Bruno, author of “Project Management in History: The First Jeep,” again will offer highlights of his book that examines Bantam’s industrious efforts. He will discuss important lessons in entrepreneurship and project management that are still applicable today.
Noon — Hustler, military historian, again will talk about World War II and Vietnam War era weapons in the World War II encampment.
1 p.m. — From the beginning, the history of the Bantam Reconnaissance Car has been shrouded in legend, questionable paternity claims and corporate disinformation. Through years of research and in-depth review of transcripts of FTC hearings, the Bantam Reconnaissance Car 75th Anniversary Celebration Group (BRC75) has compiled a presentation that contains the most accurate and defensible history to date. David Kanally, BRC75 president, will share this presentation.
2:30 p.m. — Duncan Rolls, who re-created the world’s original Jeep, will explain how and why he built a re-creation of the Bantam Reconnaissance Car. He will show photographs of how he went about re-creating and constructing the pilot that he brought home to Butler for its 75th birthday celebration.
4:30 p.m. — Lorentzson, a Jeep historian, again will speak about his excursions to Normandy with his Jeep to commemorate the anniversaries of D-Day.
Sunday
