Raymond E. Laurent

Raymond E. Laurent, 91 of Butler passed away at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday at Life Care Hospital, Wilkinsburg, Pa.

He was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Butler to the late Edward Laurent and Adele (DeLeau) Laurent.

Mr. Laurent served as a banker in the Butler area for 35 years.

He was active in Free Masonry and was a past master of Butler Lodge 272 for 53 years. Mr. Laurent had the honor of receiving the KYCH, 33rd Degree, the Order of Purple Cross, the Past Sovereign of Red Cross of Constantine and the Past presiding officer of Knights Templar Priests. He was active in the Moraine Trail Council of Boy Scouts of America, where he served more than 30 years as director and seven years as treasurer. Mr. Laurent had the honor of receiving the Order of the Silver Beaver.

He also was actively involved with the Lorraine Chapter of Order of DeMolay, having served as an adviser and treasurer. Mr. Laurent had the honor of receiving the DeMolay Medal of Honor, the Advisors Key and the Honorary Legion of Honor.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He also was actively involved with the VFW Honor Guard and with the Military Honors Bereavement Group. Mr. Laurent was a life-long member of the NRA.

Mr. Laurent is survived by one nephew, Daniel Laurent of Butler; three nieces, Donna Best and her husband, Larry, of Evans City, Karen Wcislek and her husband, Martin, of Toledo, Ohio and Linda Perryman and her husband, Jerry, of Gainesville, Fla.; four great nieces and four great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Laurent; one sister, Dorothy Snyder; and two nephews, David and Steven Laurent.

LAURENT — Friends of Raymond Laurent who died Tuesday, May 5, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert C. Huber of North Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.Officers and members of the Butler Lodge 272, F. and A. M., will meet at the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. Friday to conduct Masonic Services.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 117 of Butler, the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 of Butler will conduct military honors following the service at the funeral home.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
