Fire safety packets to be distributed
The American Red Cross will partner with the Butler Fire Department and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday to distribute fire safety information in the city.
The information packet will include instructions on how to get a free smoke alarm from the Red Cross.
Selected neighborhoods will be canvassed by as many as 100 volunteers between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
“Having working smoke alarms can save lives and reduce the injuries and damages due to fires in the home,” Chief Nick Ban said in a release.
“While the alarms will not prevent fires, they do give residents a chance to get out of their homes safely and call 911 for immediate assistance. Every home should have working smoke alarms.”
No Butler Transit buses on June 12
The Butler Transit Authority announced that its buses will not be operating on June 12 due to traffic restrictions with the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival parade.
The authority in a release said it would be unable to maintain scheduled times and route consistency because of the heavy restrictions and road closures in downtown Butler and Butler Township.
