BUTLER TWP — Police are searching for the driver whose vehicle hit a woman crossing New Castle Road on Sunday night.

According to Lt. Matthew Pearson of the township police, Roberta Prementine, 42, of Butler was walking across the road in front of the Sheetz convenience store about 10:50 p.m. when she was hit in the east bound turn lane.

She was struck by a sport utility vehicle that was either white or gray. Pearson said that a witness told police the vehicle was traveling at an estimated speed of 35 mph.

Witnesses described the driver as a white man, between 60 and 70 years old. The vehicle was last seen making a turn onto Hindman Road.

Although the SUV driver did not stop, a motorist in another vehicle stopped and provided assistance to Prementine until an ambulance arrived. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital, then flown by a helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Although her condition was not immediately known, it is believed her injuries are not life threatening.

“We are still actively investigating,” Pearson said.
