Playground funding approved

Butler City Council Thursday night approved funding to add playground equipment to a city park.

Council agreed to spend more than $23,000 to buy playground equipment for Rotary Park, which is at the corner of West Cunningham and South Chestnut streets. The city also will be providing a safe zone fall area around the equipment for about $1,100, and will install a basketball court for about $5,200.

The work is contingent upon the release of $20,000 from the Housing Authority of Butler County, per a previous agreement. The remainder of the cost will be covered by the Support Our Spray Park funds, which were collected by a group of volunteers who hoped to turn the swimming pool at Memorial Park into a spray park. Those plans fell through.

Work is expected to begin when the weather improves.
