Attorney charged with stealing $535K

CARLISLE — One of Jerry Sandusky’s former attorneys is being charged with stealing more than a half-million dollars from clients and spending the money on casino gambling and other personal interests.

PennLive.com said Friday Cumberland County detectives filed 25 charges of theft and misappropriation of funds against Karl Rominger.

Investigators say the 41-year-old Rominger stole $535,000 from three clients — an auto-accident victim, a spouse in a divorce case and the survivors of a woman whose estate Rominger represented.

Rominger apologized and promised restitution. He says he hasn’t gambled since March.

Authorities say their investigation remains open.

Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, was convicted of sexually abusing 10 boys. He is serving a 30- to 60-year prison term.

Lawyers argue Wolf’s reprieve legal

PHILADELPHIA — Attorneys for a death-row inmate say Gov. Tom Wolf acted within his legal authority when he granted their client a temporary reprieve from execution.

Lawyers for Terrance Williams filed documents Friday with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. They come in response to a lawsuit filed by the Philadelphia district attorney, who is challenging Wolf’s moratorium on capital punishment.

Wolf announced Feb. 13 that he would issue reprieves while awaiting a report from a legislative commission that’s been studying the issue since 2011.

Williams’ execution was scheduled for March 4. He was convicted of the 1984 robbery and fatal tire-iron beating of another man.

Pennsylvania has executed only three people since the U.S. Supreme Court restored the death penalty in 1976. The last was in 1999.

Police: Man filmed students in shower

PITTSBURGH — Police say a Carnegie Mellon University student’s activities included filming fellow students in the shower.

Daniel Edilio Jorge, 19, was arrested Thursday on invasion of privacy charges. The East Williston, N.Y., man is free on bond pending a March 4 preliminary hearing. Jorge declined to answer questions as he left his arraignment. He’s no longer enrolled at CMU.

Police say Jorge had videos of more than 30 male students on his iPhone and hard drive. Police say they started investigating Jorge after another student saw him recording two people showering in a dormitory bathroom without their knowledge.

Police say Jorge admitted recording the videos after initially denying they were his.
