JACKSON TWP — Seven students from the Seneca Valley School District won Gold Keys in the 2015 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. They will travel to New York City where national medalists will be announced in March.

The Gold Key winners include Hannah Kendrick for “Pots in Blue” in drawing and illustration, Eric Chatterjee for “Abstract Self Portrait” and “Transparent Faces” in mixed media and “Class System” in photography, Brendan Kennelty for “Self Portrait” and “Reflection” in drawing and illustration, Rebecca Moser for “Nicole and Katie” in mixed media, Katherine Beringer for “Blue Mist” in ceramics and glass, Callee McCosby for “Shoe” in ceramics and glass and Nicole Walters for “Bride and Groom” in ceramics and glass.

Chatterjee, Kennelty, Moser and McCosby also were among those students who received Silver Key and honorable mention awards.

Other Silver Key and honorable mention recipients were Samuel Foss, Alex Lecce, Jesse Trempus, Nicole Berner, Rachel Brunette, Emily Cekella, Rachel Moore, Taylor Askey, Keaton Bigler, Ali Campbell, Sara Goncz, Whitney Kaltenbaugh, Micah Schirra, Abigail Smith, Briana Thompson, Kalyn Serman, Morgan Culichia and Shannon Uram.

The artwork of these students is on display in the Cantellops Gallery and Zappala College Center at La Roche College through Feb. 22. The exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley Middle School MathCounts Team placed first in the Midwestern chapter MathCounts competition at Grove City College.

The team members were Matt Muir, Rishin Sharma, Dean Smith and Nishant Jayachandra. They will represent the region at the state competition in March.

Seneca Valley students who were among the top 10 competitors included Matt Muir, Rishin Sharma, Dean Smith and Evans City Middle School’s David Choi.
