School stabbings case conference set

GREENSBURG — A pretrial conference is scheduled today for a 17-year-old charged as an adult with stabbing 20 fellow students and a security guard at Franklin Regional High School last April.

Alex Hribal of Murrysville is scheduled for trial next month, though that’s likely to be postponed.

Hribal’s defense attorney has tried to convince a judge to move the case to juvenile court, though the attorneys missed a deadline to file such a request.

Hribal faces charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

2nd teacher now under investigation

PLUM — Charges that a high school teacher had sex with an 18-year-old student have led to an investigation that another teacher had sex with another student.

Plum School District Superintendent Timothy Glasspool said 38-year-old Jason Cooper, of Monroeville, has been suspended as a result of being charged with institutional sexual assault and other crimes.

Glasspool said the district became aware of another alleged teacher-student relationship during the course of the Cooper investigation.

No charges have been filed and that situation remains under investigation.
