Joan and Joseph Appel

Joseph and Joan Appel of Connoquenessing Township celebrated 50 years of marriage with a Mass and blessing at St. Fidelis Parish in Meridian.

Appel married the former Joan Fibick on Jan. 29, 1965, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

They have three children, Joe (Emily) Appel of Pittsburgh; Jody (Jeff) Smith of Pittsburgh and John (Patti) Appel of Butler.

They also have four grandchildren.

Appel is a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper from the Troop D Butler Barracks and a member of the Brady Paul Memorial Lodge 54 of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Mrs. Appel retired as a nursing supervisor at Butler Memorial Hospital.
