Helen A. Morgan

Born on July 21, 1924, in Zelienople, she was the daughter of the late John and Katherine Nemath Racz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Morgan, who she married on June 1, 1944. The Rev. Joseph Devlin, who was an Army Chaplain at the time, performed the ceremony at the Army Chapel in Great Bend, Kan. Mr. Morgan died on March 1, 2007, three months short of their 63rd wedding anniversary. They met on a blind date while Joe, who was from upstate New York, was serving at Fort Meade, Md., during World War II, and Helen was working for the government in Washington, D.C.

Helen was a lifelong member of the St. Gregory Catholic Church where she was a very active member of the St. Ann's Guild, serving as president for two years and as secretary for many years. She was the oldest member in tenure when she died. Mrs. Morgan also served for many years as dining room chairperson for the church dinners and later joined the Women's Choir, became a lector for years, and used her decorating talents to make the flower arrangements that decorated the altar at church.

She was also well-known for her homemade banana nut cake. Many people who came to the church dinners would specifically ask for her banana nut cake. Helen was also active in the community when she solicited donations for March of Dimes door to door. She also helped the Lions Club, which her husband was a very active member and officer of for many years, with its various activities.

Helen enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. Her hobby for many years was baking cakes for all occasions and she continued her mother's Shrove Tuesday tradition of making raised doughnuts which she shared with family and friends.
