Mars School Board member steps down
ADAMS TWP — A Mars School Board member has resigned with one year left in her term.
Jane Dunn, who was election to the board in 2011 and in 2012 began her four-year term, resigned for personal reasons.
Board President Dayle Ferguson at Tuesday night’s meeting thanked Dunn for her service to the district. Dunn did not attend that meeting.
Ferguson said, “We appreciate her time and commitment and wish her and her family all the best.”
Dunn said Thursday that the time required for board work and activities greatly impinged on her family time so she had to make the difficult decision to leave the board.
“My family comes first, and something had to give in my life,” Dunn said.
She said the public does not realize the amount of time required of school board members. She said during various times of the year, she spent many hours working on board issues.
Ferguson said the board has 30 days from Dec. 22, the effective date of Dunn’s resignation, to appoint a replacement.
Interim Superintendent William Pettigrew suggested that a former school board member be appointed since Dunn’s term expires at the end of 2015.
He said bringing a new person on the board would be futile because it takes a number of months to learn about serving on the school board and there is only one year left in that term.
