Butler man charged in burglary
SUMMIT TWP — A woman walking her dog Thursday evening helped police nab two men allegedly stealing from an abandoned home on her property.
State police said the woman was near 251 Herman Road about 5:10 p.m. when she heard voices coming from the house, which was posted with no trespassing signs.
The woman told police she found two men leaving the home with several items. The woman was able to keep one of the men, Curtis K. Goff, 20, of Butler, at the house until troopers arrived.
Police found dishes, a coffee mug, and a bottle of alcohol allegedly stolen from the home in Goff’s backpack.
The woman told troopers the other man left the house carrying a large plastic duck, a thermos, and a storage container, but dropped the items before fleeing.
When questioned by police, Goff admitted to stealing items from the home and identified his alleged accomplice as Matthew J. Walker, according to the criminal complaint filed against Goff.
Walker was later arrested and admitted to being with Goff during the incident, police said.
Goff is facing a felony charge of burglary, as well as charges of receiving stolen property, criminal trespass, and theft by unlawful taking. He is in Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Tuesday before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
Court documents for Walker were unavailable Saturday morning.
