Cheerleader earns high honor
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Following a week of clinics and auditions, Janae Nebel of Slippery Rock was one of 24 chosen throughout the United States as a “Fly Girl” on Florida Atlantic University’s dance team.
The team is ranked first in Florida and eighth in the nation and will compete at the Universal Dance Association Nationals in January.
Nebel is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Nebel of Slippery Rock. She attends Florida Atlantic University with an academic scholarship and scholarship money received as a finalist in the Distinguished Young Women Program of Butler County.
Nebel is a pre-med major. She previously trained at Fellowship of Christian Athletes GEMS in Sarver and X-Cel Gymnastics in Cranberry.

JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley High School senior Trianna Winters was selected as one of 12 winners in the American Association of Physics Teachers National Photo Contest.
Her photograph and narrative description were published in the AAPT 2015 calendar, which is distributed nationally.
The photograph, which was taken in Lower Antelope Canyon in Arizona last year, was chosen as the Seneca Valley Physics Photo Contest winner last spring as a part of the Seneca Valley STEM Fair.

BRADYS BEND — Kennedy McGinnis, Madison Eyth, Owen Collwell and Josh Ritzert were winners in the Bradys Bend American Legion Post 488 Bishop-Madden Veterans Day Essay contest.
The Chicora Elementary School sixth graders wrote about things they could do to show a veteran they are thankful for their service.
Kennedy and Madison both won first place. McGinnis is the daughter of Jennifer Barger and Kevin McGinnis of Chicora and Eyth is the daughter of Brandon and Shannon Eyth of Petrolia.
Owen won second place. He is the son of David and Dayna Collwell of Chicora.
Josh won third place. He is the son of Ronald and Lori Ritzert of Karns City.

BRADYS BEND — Brayden Stuchell, Nathan Boyden and Augustin Forester are Sugarcreek Elementary School sixth grade students who were also winners in the Bradys Bend American Legion Post 488 Bishop-Madden Veterans Day Essay contest.
Brayden won first place. He is the son of Robin and Jimmy Stuchell of Karns City.
Nathan won second place. He is the son of Cindy Boyden of Karns City.
Augustin won third place. He is the son of Kathy and Randall Forester of Chicora.

JEFFERSON TWP — Twenty-one students kindergarten through sixth grade at HIS Kids Christian School collected more than 40 blankets for Keep Yinz Warm.
Keep Yinz Warm in Valencia collects items to keep the homeless warm during the cold.

CRANBERRY TWP — Haine Middle School demonstrated their community support by collecting $2,487 last month for the Superhero Foundation.
It is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness for child abuse prevention.
