Chicora plans light-up night

Holiday event set for Nov. 30

CHICORA — For the first time in about 20 years, the borough is set to ring in the holiday season with a light-up night on Nov. 30.

Barb Blauser, who lives in the area, proposed the idea to Mayor Lisa Nagy in October. She said she goes to similar events in other communities and thought the event would be great for the borough.

“Why not do it here?” Blauser said.

As the newly-refurbished holiday-themed street lights are illuminated at 5 p.m., the town’s musical chimes will kick off the fun with familiar Christmas tunes.

Visitors can walk along West Slippery Rock Street and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus. Children will be treated to a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” face-painting, ornament-decorating and s’mores made over a bonfire. Food, light-up night themed apparel and other items will be available for sale.

Other highlights will be performances by Miss Butler County Becca Bly, Karns City School District students, carolers and others. A seasonal movie will be showing throughout the evening and a family-friendly dance will follow at the Moose Lodge from 8 to 10 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the borough council, the Chicora Moose Lodge, the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department and the Ladies’ Fire Auxiliary.

The event will run until 8 p.m. and most attractions will be outside on West Slippery Rock Street.
