Sweet 16 event raises $425 for pet shelter
East Brady — A junior member of the American Legion Post 488’s Auxiliary combined her family’s military roots and her love for animals into a Veterans Day fundraiser.
Veronica Bartoe of Rimersburg raised $425 for the ANNA Shelter in Erie, one of three animal shelters partnered with Pets for Vets, according to a press release from Post 488.
She did so by celebrating her 16th birthday with a fundraiser Nov. 8 at the American Legion. Instead of gifts, Veronica asked guests to bring donations for Pets for Vets, a national program that matches shelter dogs and cats with veterans in need of a companion animal.
In addition to cash gifts, Veronica received gas cards and gift cards for veterans as well as animal toys, food, blankets, and other supplies for the ANNA Shelter.
Veronica, a sophomore at Union High School, is the daughter of Vince and Michelle Bartoe of Rimersburg.
