Assault case held for court

EVANS CITY — A borough man is headed for trial on charges he repeatedly assaulted his wife and would not let her leave their Margaret Avenue home during a domestic dispute that left her with a fractured skull.

Michael L. Frederick, 49, will be formally arraigned Nov. 18 in Butler County Court on charges of aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, simple assault and harassment.

Frederick waived those charges to court after giving up his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday at the office of District Judge Wayne Seibel in Evans City.

In exchange for his waiver, prosecutors agreed to withdraw a charge of kidnapping.

State police arrested the defendant Oct. 3 after they found his injured wife, 47-year-old Wendy Sue Frederick, at the couple’s home. The woman had “multiple serious face and head trauma,” a police affidavit said.

She told investigators that her husband had beaten her during the past three days, during which he refused to let her leave.

Frederick punched, slapped and kicked his wife, court documents said, and struck her on the head with two chairs.

Wendy Frederick was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of injuries that included “at least one skull fracture,” documents said.

The defendant, who is being held in the Butler County Prison on $75,000 bail and on a probation violation, is to be arraigned Nov. 18 in county court.

Wendy Frederick in 2012 obtained a protection from abuse order against her husband. The order was to expire Nov. 27, 2015, Butler County Court records showed.

However, she went to court and withdrew the PFA on March 26, less than two months after the defendant was arrested for violating the order.

Frederick later admitted to the violation, according to records, and was placed on 6 months’ probation.

Court records showed the couple married June 27, 2008.
